The country’s largest IT company Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has allegedly forced about 2,500 employees to resign in Pune. An organization of IT employees, NITES, claimed this in a letter to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra on Wednesday. To this, TCS stated that only limited number of employees have been affected by the recently launched re-scaling initiative within the organization. Harpreet Singh Saluja, President of NAST Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), demanded timely intervention to protect the interests of the employees affected by the sorting in a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Ministry of Labor issued instructions for necessary action to the Labor Secretary of Maharashtra

Harpreet Singh Saluja said that based on the memorandum of NITES, the Union Labor Ministry has directed the Labor Secretary of Maharashtra to take necessary action in the matter. NITES said, “Unfortunately, despite this instruction, the ground reality has become even more frightening. In Pune alone, about 2,500 employees have either been forced to resign in the last few weeks or have been abruptly fired.” Our recent initiative of skill restructuring in our organization has affected only a limited number of employees.

What did the Tata group company say in the statement?

The IT company of the Tata group said, “Proper care and retirement allowance to the affected people, which they should have met in every situation.” The NITES said that the affected employees are not just numbers, but the parents, earned, careful and the backbone of thousands of families across Maharashtra. NITES said, “Many of the affected employees are medium to senior-level professionals who have given the company a dedicated 10-20 years of service.” A large number of employees are over 40 years of age, who are burdened with monthly installments, school fees, medical expenses and responsibilities of elderly parents. For them to find alternative employment in today’s competitive market.

NITES accused of violation of Industrial Disputes Act, 1947

NITES has alleged that the dismissal of employees by TCS is a severe violation of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 as no information has been given to the government in this regard. The organization claims that the TCS has not given any statutory pruning compensation to the employees and the employees are being forced to give ‘voluntary resignation’ under fear and pressure. The organization has demanded the Chief Minister of Maharashtra to stand with the families affected in this ‘worst time’ and direct the state labor department to investigate and stop the alleged illegal dismissal immediately.
