Vedanta Group owner and businessman Anil Agarwal with a net worth of Rs 29,000 crore got a big shock on Wednesday. His elder son Agnivesh died during treatment in America. The post written by Anil Aggarwal on Facebook regarding this is very emotional. He wrote, “Today is the most painful day of my life. My Agnivesh, my 49-year-old son, is no more. What could be worse for a father than shouldering his son’s coffin?” In this way Anil Aggarwal shared his grief with the world. Anil Agarwal is originally from the Indian state of Bihar and has risen from a humble background to build a huge empire.
He has often shared stories of his life on social media. He is deeply saddened by the tragic death of his son. Agnivesh had gone skiing in America with a friend. There was an accident, after which he was admitted to the hospital. He was recovering when he suffered a cardiac arrest and died. Sharing his memories, Anil Aggarwal writes, “When Agnivesh came into our world on June 3, 1976 in Patna, that moment is still fresh in my memories. Agnivesh was born in a middle class Bihari family. My son, I remember every moment spent with you very much.”
Recalling his son’s childhood, Anil Aggarwal writes, “Agnivesh, his mother’s darling, was very playful and mischievous in his childhood. Always laughing, always smiling. He was a true friend to his friends and was very protective of his sister Priya. He studied in Mayo College, Ajmer. Agnivesh had a very strong personality and was a boxing champion. He was also fond of horse riding and music.” He told that his son formed a company like Fujairah Gold and also became the chairman of Hindustan Zinc. He wrote that his son was very simple and was always surrounded by his friends and colleagues.
‘My son won everyone’s heart, he was like a friend’
He wrote that Agnivesh would win the heart of whoever he met. He was always down to earth, simple, honest, lively and full of humanity. He was not just a son – he was my friend, my pride, my whole world. Kiran and I are completely devastated. We are just thinking that our son is gone. But all the people working in our Vedanta are like Agnivesh. They are all our sons and daughters. Agnivesh and I had a dream: to make India self-reliant. He always used to say, “Papa, what is lacking in our country? Why should we lag behind anyone?”
I will fulfill my son’s dream, and now I will live a more simple life
Aggarwal says that our heartfelt desire has always been that no child in the country should sleep hungry, no child should remain illiterate, every woman should be self-reliant, and all the youth should get employment. I had promised Agnivesh that we would invest more than 75% of our wealth in social work. Today, I reiterate that promise. Now I will live a more simple life and will devote the rest of my life to this work. We sincerely thank all those friends, colleagues and well-wishers who were always with Agnivesh.
