There has been a major leadership change in the corporate world. Eternal Group CEO Deependra Goyal has resigned from his post. Goyal himself shared this information on social media platform X (earlier Twitter). He said that after the approval of the shareholders, he will now continue to serve on the company’s board as Vice Chairman, while Albinder Dhindsa will be the new Group CEO of Eternal Group. For your information, Zomato is part of Eternal Group. Deependra Goyal is known as the founder of Zomato.
Goyal’s resignation comes at a time when Eternal Group is going through a period of expansion and strategic restructuring. During his tenure, Goyal played a key role in strengthening the company, implementing new business strategies and strengthening the Group’s presence in the competitive market. Under his leadership, Eternal Group took several important decisions that impacted the company’s long-term growth.
Reasons behind CEO’s resignation
Goyal also explained in detail the reasons behind his decision. He said that recently he wanted to work on some new ideas that involve more risk, experimentation and exploration. Such experiments do not fit within the scope of a public company. He made it clear that if these ideas were within Eternal’s strategic scope, he would have worked on them within the company. but it’s not like that. Therefore, it was important to remain completely focused and disciplined for Eternal. Goyal also acknowledged that being the CEO of a public company in India comes with legal and other responsibilities that require complete focus. That is why this change has been made.
What will not change?
Deependra Goyal made it clear that this decision is not about distancing himself from the company. He wrote that he has spent 18 years of his life, i.e. half of his life, in building this company, and he will remain associated with it. “He will continue to play an active role in the company’s long-term strategy, company culture, leadership development, and decisions related to ethics and governance,” he said. Goyal also assured that Albinder Dhindsa, Akshat and he will continue to work together as before, and all business CEOs will get the same freedom that they have been getting till now.
Why Albinder Dhindsa? Praising Albinder Dhindsa, Goyal wrote that Dhindsa played a key role in taking Blinkit from acquisition to profit. He strengthened the team, supply chain, culture and operational systems. According to Goyal, Albinder is an “experienced founder” with very strong execution capabilities.
Important announcement regarding ESOPs and shareholders
Deepinder Goyal also clarified that his financial future is still tied to Eternal and his interests remain aligned with long-term shareholder value. However, under this change, all their unvested ESOPs will be returned to the ESOP pool. The objective is to enhance wealth creation opportunities for the next generation of leaders and retain talent without additional share dilution. At the end of his message, Goyal said that 18 years ago no one had thought that a menu scanning company could become so big. But Eternal made it true. He said that his dream remains the same – to make Eternal the most valuable company in India, reach one billion customers and become a source of livelihood for millions of Indians. Goyal clarified that this change is only in the post, not in commitment. Eternal has been and will remain his life’s work.
