A few years ago, Jainendrajit had scored only 54 percent marks in the CBSE 10th board exam. But in the year 2023, the same student achieved 99.98 percentile in JEE Main and All India Rank (AIR) 349 (Open Category) in JEE Advanced.
IIT Bombay BTech CSE student success story: Every year lakhs of students get disappointed due to low marks in CBSE board results. They sink into despair and lose their self-confidence. They feel like their careers are ruined. But Jainendrajit’s story will completely change the thinking of such students. He has set a wonderful example of bouncing back after stumbling. Today Jainendrajit is studying B.Tech Computer Science at IIT Bombay, one of the most prestigious engineering institutes in the country. JEE Advanced toppers get seats in IIT Bombay’s B.Tech Computer Science course. But you will be surprised to know that a few years ago, Jainendrajit got only 54 percent marks in CBSE 10th board exam. He got only 41 marks out of 100 in Mathematics and 48 marks in Science. Many of his friends had scored more than 90 percent marks. Due to poor results he had to face a lot of criticism. For some moments he even started doubting his abilities.
great comeback
But in the year 2023, the same student surprised everyone by securing 99.98 percentile in JEE Main and All India Rank (AIR) 349 (Open Category) and OBC rank 54 in JEE Advanced. Jainendrajit told everyone with his feat that no single examination ever decides the future of any student.
I thought this result was not mine
Narrating his story, in a YouTube video, Jainendrajit says that he was not eagerly waiting for his class 10 results. Before the exam he had spent about 40 to 50 days on bed rest, missed many classes and he knew his preparation had suffered. When he was studying with a friend on Zoom, someone sent him a message that the results had been declared.
“I opened the website, saw my score and was stunned. My first thought was that this couldn’t be my result. I refreshed the page, rechecked my roll number, but it was true. I had scored 54%.” There were no tears in the eyes. There was no anger. Only one question was going on in his mind. “How come I got such low marks?”
She said the hardest part wasn’t the scores. When friends started sharing their scores, the truth became even more difficult to accept. Some had got 80% marks.
Others had more than 90% marks. Some had scored up to 98%. “I had the lowest marks in my entire group of friends,” he recalls. However, more than Marx, he was worried about what people would say. “I was so afraid of what my parents would say.” He says that he remained almost silent that night. But amidst the despair, another voice came from somewhere.
“You’re not like that. You’re better than this.” This thought changed everything.
The decision that changed his life
Instead of accepting defeat, Jainendrajit decided to reinvent himself. Not for the society. Not to silence critics. But for myself. ‘If I want to achieve something meaningful in life, excuses will not help.’ He started planning every day. He set study hours, reduced distractions, limited social media use, used YouTube only for learning, and gradually made studying a part of his daily routine for about 10 hours a day.
However this change was not easy. There came days when he doubted himself. He openly admits that mathematics seemed very difficult in the beginning. He was afraid of physics. Couldn’t remember chemistry reactions. Even after studying from morning till night for some days, he felt that he had achieved nothing. There were many moments when I really felt that JEE was not for me. Whenever despair overcame him, he took the help of his friends. One thing always remained with him in this journey. Your best teachers are often your friends.
From 41 Marks in Mathematics to AIR 349 in JEE Advanced
Perhaps the most special part of Jainendrajit’s journey is his transformation in mathematics. While he got only 41 marks in Mathematics in 10th board, he later performed brilliantly in the toughest entrance examinations of the country.
These 3 habits were behind success
Jainendrajit attributes his success to three important habits:
– Preparation before class: Used to understand every topic on YouTube before being taught in the class, due to which the lectures were easily understood.
– Setting daily goals: Made clear study goals for every day instead of relying only on motivation.
– Solving PYQs after every chapter: As soon as the chapter was completed, we used to solve Previous Year Questions, so that we could understand how questions are asked in JEE.
He believes that these habits contributed to his success more than expensive coaching materials.
