The core team of the party has started formal talks with the allies of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) alliance, especially Congress, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and Left parties, to prove the majority. Earlier, after Vijay was elected leader of the TVK legislature party, he had sent an email to Governor VR Arlekar asking for two weeks’ time to prove his majority in the House. No party has got a clear majority in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly. TVK needs the support of at least 10 more MLAs to form the government. Party leaders are confident of getting support from Congress, VCK and other parties.
At the same time, the priority of both Congress and VCK parties is to stop TVK from joining hands with BJP. Tamil Nadu Congress in-charge Girish Chodankar said that he has submitted a detailed report to the party high command on the situation after the election results.
VCK founder and Lok Sabha MP Thol Thirumavalavan told reporters that the public has supported the coalition government. This is the message the people of Tamil Nadu have given by not giving a clear majority to any party. We will discuss with leftist parties and take a decision on supporting TVK. He described the election results as public opinion against communal and casteist forces. Meanwhile, senior TVK leaders KA Sengottaiyan and Adhav Arjuna are trying to garner support by contacting elected AIADMK MLAs.
