New Delhi: Teacher and public official Vikas Divyakirti, best known for his role in the popular film 12th Fail. He recently shared his views on the controversy related to director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s project, Animal. During an interview on Nilesh Mishra’s Slow Interview series, Divyakirti said that she believes the Ranbir Kapoor-led film should never have been produced.
Describing Animal as a ‘slutty and vulgar’ film, he said, ‘A film like Animal takes our society back 10 years. Such a film should not be made. You made money and you showed that your hero behaves like an animal. There must be some social value, or are people only working for financial value?’
He also told that he did not like the part of the film where Ranbir’s character asks Tripti Dimri’s character to lick his shoe to prove his love. He said he is worried that such scenes could make an immature boy think that it is okay to misbehave with his girlfriend. Reacting to that scene, Vikas said, ‘After watching the film, if some boys who have a feudal mindset but are not that mature, then express their love for their girlfriend by asking her to lick her shoes. What if you want to take the exam? It is very sad that we are making such a vulgar and ill-mannered film, but both types of forces are always present in the world.
Let us tell you that despite all the controversies, Animal became a blockbuster film and also became very popular among the youngsters. Animal has received mixed reactions, while many people liked it while many also raised objections regarding its foul language and vulgar scenes. While many called the film once again ‘glorifying toxic masculinity’ after Kabir Singh, a large section of the audience also praised Ranbir Kapoor for his performance. A section of social media criticized the film, and Javed Akhtar has also spoken against the film. Despite criticism, the film performed well at the box office. It has crossed the Rs 500 crore mark worldwide.
