Alpha Movie Review: ‘Alpha’, the first female-led film of Yash Raj Films’ (YRF) biggest and toughest spy universe, has finally been released in theatres. There was a huge buzz among the fans about this film starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh for a long time.
This time after Tiger, Pathan and Kabir, two lethal female agents have entered the field to save the country and get rid of the enemies. Directed by Shiv Rawail, this film is a tight package of action, thrill and emotion. Story: Not a RAW agent, but became a murderer out of compulsion
The story of the film ‘Alpha’ is a bit different and tough from the other films of the YRF Spy Universe. The hero here is not an already decorated or patriotic RAW officer. The story of the film revolves around ‘Sita’ (Alia Bhatt), who has to become a very dangerous and trained assassin not on her own will but due to circumstances.
Sita is up against her own stepfather’s illegal military program. He is supported in this mission by Sharvari, who is seen as his tough partner in the film. Together, both of them set out to destroy this villain’s empire, in which a lot of twists and suspense are seen.
Strong performance of acting and stars
In terms of performance, the film rests entirely on the shoulders of Alia Bhatt. For the first time in her career, Alia has done such a tough and raw action, in which her dedication is clearly visible. However, Sharvari Wagh has proved to be the real surprise package of the film. Sharvari has created a stir as soon as she came on screen and her dialogue delivery and action moves are being liked very much by the audience.
At the same time, Bobby Deol in the role of villain ‘Colonel Lakhawat’ has left a strong impression from his very first scene. The face-off scenes between Alia and Bobby Deol are the biggest USP of the film. Apart from this, Anil Kapoor has also acted strongly in his role.
Direction, action and weak points
Director Shiv Rawail has kept the scale and visuals of the film quite tight and stylish. The VFX and cinematography of the film seem to be of Hollywood level. The action scenes directed by Craig McRae look quite intense and fresh, especially the second half of the film which keeps the audience sitting in the theater engaged.
However, if we talk about the weak link of the film, its story seems a bit predictable i.e. familiar. The pace of the first half is a bit slow and at some places the action scenes feel a bit unrealistic, due to which mixed reactions are also being seen on social media.

The film has received a UA 16+ certificate from the Censor Board and its runtime is 2 hours 20 minutes, which is tight and crisp. The film also has a very strong cameo by Hrithik Roshan, which will force the audience to clap in the theatres. According to trade analysts, the film may do a business of ₹7 to ₹8 crore on the opening day, which is a low opening considering the spy universe.
But on the basis of strong mouth publicity on the weekend, there is every hope of a big jump in its collection. If you are a die-hard fan of Alia Bhatt and Bobby Deol and are fond of high-octane action films, then ‘Alpha’ is a perfect one-time watch film for you.
