They also arrested a criminal, but when the case reached the court, it was proved that there was no criminal like the one the police was looking for.
Vijay Anand was surprised to hear from K Narayan and he liked the idea of making a film. Vijay Anand told Dev Anand that he had an idea of a jewel thief in his mind, in which there would be no jewel thief. At first Dev Anand did not understand how this film would be made, but he showed confidence in his brother and after that Jewel Thief was ready.
Ashok Kumar had set some conditions for working in the film.
Apart from Dev Anand and Vyjayanti Mala, actors like Ashok Kumar, Tanuja, Helen, Nasir Hussain, Anju Mahendru and Jagdish Raj were seen in Jewel Thief. Ashok Kumar was initially hesitant in doing this film because he had undergone heart surgery shortly before the film was made. Before signing the film, Ashok Kumar had said that because he has undergone heart surgery, keeping his health in mind, he will come to the set at 11 o’clock. There should be a lunch break of 1:30 to 2 and they will work from 2 to 5, after that they will not work. Both Dev Anand and Vijay Anand agreed to the conditions of Ashok Kumar.
There was a rift between Vyjayanti Mala and Vijay Anand.
However, when it was the first day of the shoot, Ashok Kumar arrived on the set on time. Vyjayanti Mala also came to the set on time, but she was not coming out of her make-up room. Vijay Anand called her on the set several times, but she kept saying again and again that she was coming now, but Vyjayanti Mala came to the set after two hours. Vijay Anand got angry on this matter. He said that now it is lunch time. The shooting will take place after lunch. Vyjayanti Mala was angry at this. She said that you have been calling me for so long, now when I have come you are saying that the shoot will happen later. Many small incidents happened on the sets of this film, after which the relationship between Vyjayanti Mala and Vijay Anand turned sour.
