Delhi, May 24 (IANS). World Yoga Day 2026 is now just 29 days away. Under the Healthy India Campaign, the Ministry of AYUSH of the Government of India is continuously appealing to the citizens to include Yogasana in their daily routine, which is effective in removing not only physical but also mental problems. In this series, the Ministry gave detailed information about the practice of ‘chalan’ activities.
The Ministry of AYUSH has advised to start yoga practice with ‘chalana kriyas’ i.e. basic exercises that loosen the body. According to experts, movement activities help in making the body flexible, increasing joint mobility and improving blood circulation. With these exercises, the micro blood circulation of the body improves and the body gets prepared before doing yoga. The Ministry has given detailed information especially on the motor functions of the neck.
Perform neck movements as follows: Bend the neck forward and backward, stand in a careful posture. Keep the legs slightly apart and place the hands on the waist. While exhaling, slowly bend the neck forward and try to touch the chin to the chest. While breathing, move the neck back as much as is comfortable and then bring it to normal position.
Bending the neck to the right and left: – While exhaling, bend the neck to the right and try to bring the ear as close to the shoulder as possible. Inhale and bring back to center. Repeat the same on the left side also.
Rotating the neck to the right and left: – While exhaling, rotate the neck to the right so that the chin comes in line with the shoulder. Bring it to the middle while inhaling. Then rotate to the left.
Circular rotation of the neck: Bend the neck forward and place the chin on the chest. While inhaling, rotate clockwise. Exhale while lowering. After this, rotate it in the anti-clockwise direction also. During this, feel the stretch in the joints and muscles of the neck.
The ministry says that by doing movement activities daily, the body remains stress free, flexibility increases and it becomes easier to do yoga asanas. However, there is a special warning that people who have neck pain, spondylitis or any other problem should do these exercises very slowly and carefully after taking advice.
