Bratislava, June 16 (IANS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said he and Slovakia’s President Peter Pellegrini were extremely pleased to see the special yoga performance presented by Slovak school children. He said that this presentation organized ahead of International Yoga Day effectively demonstrated the growing attraction and wide acceptance of Yoga across the world.

PM Modi wrote on social media platform

Meanwhile, a yoga camp was also organized at the Presidential Palace in Slovakia on Monday. The youth of Slovakia did yoga in the presence of PM Modi and President Pellegrini.

“PM Narendra Modi, along with President Peter Pellegrini, watched a special yoga performance by school children from Slovakia. The two leaders noted the growing cultural connect between India and Slovakia as well as the appeal of yoga as a way to promote physical health, mental coordination and a healthy lifestyle,” the Ministry of External Affairs said.

In a separate post, PM Modi also shared details of his conversation with renowned Slovak scholar Dr. Robert Gafrich. Dr. Robert has played an important role in translating the Upanishads into the Slovak language.

PM Modi said, “Yesterday evening in Bratislava, I met Dr. Robert Gaffrich, who has led the efforts to translate the Upanishads into Slovak. His passion for Indian history, culture and spirituality is admirable.”

International Yoga Day is celebrated across the world on 21 June every year to raise awareness about the physical, mental and spiritual benefits of yoga. This idea was first given by Prime Minister Modi during his speech in the United Nations General Assembly in September 2014.

The United Nations officially declared June 21 as International Yoga Day on December 11, 2014, after overwhelming support internationally. This is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. It is considered a symbol of harmony, balance and deep connection between humans and nature.
