New Delhi, July 21 (IANS). If you have pain in your knees while climbing up and down stairs, have difficulty getting up after sitting for a long time or feel stiffness in your knees, then you do not need to worry too much. The Ministry of AYUSH has shared a simple ‘knee movement’ that, if done regularly, can help improve knee health.
While posting on the social media platform X, the Ministry of AYUSH said that ‘Knee Movement’ is a great easy way to get relief from knee related problems. While doing this, it should be done by breathing properly and maintaining proper alignment of the body. This strengthens the lower body and can make everyday tasks like walking, sitting and getting up easier.
To do this asana, first of all stand straight and keep the body in normal position. Now taking a deep breath, raise both hands in front to the height of the shoulders. During this, the palms should remain downwards. Now while exhaling slowly, bend the knees and take the body to a semi-squat position. Keep in mind that in the final position your thighs and both hands should be parallel to the ground. Stay in this position for a few moments and then while breathing, slowly stand back straight. This will be considered as one round. Similarly complete a total of three rounds. After the exercise is over, stand in normal position for some time and relax the body.
According to the Ministry of AYUSH, regularizing this yoga practice improves the movement of knee joints. The muscles around the knees become stronger, which reduces pressure on the joints. Apart from this, body balance improves, flexibility increases and strength in legs increases. This exercise can also be beneficial for those who work sitting for long periods of time and who feel stiffness or weakness in their legs.
Do not hurry at all while doing yoga. Bend your knees as per your capacity and concentrate on the process of inhaling and exhaling. If you have problems like severe knee pain, recent injury, surgery or severe arthritis, then consult a doctor or a trained yoga expert before starting this exercise.
