New Delhi, December 5 (IANS). Weight loss is not a one or two day trick, but a natural process of balancing the digestive fire within the body. Ayurveda says that obesity increases when our Agni becomes weak and food is not digested properly. In such a situation, toxins start accumulating in the body and later get collected in the form of fat and increase weight. Therefore the real cure is to correct Agni, balance daily routine and improve food habits.

It is also clearly stated in Charak Samhita that excess sweets, laziness, over sleep and irregular lifestyle increase obesity. Obesity does not increase due to any one reason, but due to many small bad habits, like eating something or the other throughout the day, staying awake till late night, drinking cold drinks, spending time sitting and taking excessive stress.

For weight loss, drinking lukewarm water with lemon first thing in the morning on an empty stomach speeds up digestion and makes the body feel light. Taking Triphala at night strengthens Agni by flushing out old toxins. Foods with hot nature like turmeric, black pepper and dry ginger are beneficial. Ayurveda considers 30 minutes walk daily, eating half empty stomach and balanced fasting as the golden rule for weight loss. Talking about diet, have porridge or barley water in the morning, light food like moong dal and vegetables in the afternoon and very light food at night, that too two hours before sleeping.

Some easy remedies intensify the digestive fire, like a little ginger-salt before meals, cumin-coriander-fennel decoction once a day, amla or aloe vera juice in the morning, pippali-honey and lemon ginger tea, these lighten the body from within and increase metabolism. Waking up early, doing yoga-pranayam, reducing screen time and sleeping for 7-8 hours are very important in daily routine. Surya Namaskar, Kapalbhati, Bhastrika and abdominal yoga asanas reduce fat rapidly.

A light detox once a week, such as just soup, fruit or coconut water, resets the body, although too rigid a diet can do more harm than good.
