New Delhi, January 22 (IANS). Bakayan (Mahanimba) is a medicinal herb which has been used by our elders for generations. Generally, this tree, which is easily found in villages, looks simple, but there are many medicinal properties hidden inside it. The taste of Bakayan is bitter, but in Ayurveda, bitter things are considered as medicines that cleanse the body from inside. Its leaves, bark, seeds and fruits all work in some way or the other to protect the body from diseases.
According to Ayurveda, Bakayan purifies the blood and helps in removing the dirty elements accumulated in the body. Bakayan is considered very beneficial for people who frequently suffer from boils, ringworm, itching or skin allergies. Applying paste or juice of its leaves reduces skin irritation and swelling. When the blood gets cleaned from inside, the skin automatically starts looking healthy.
The biggest specialty of Bakayan is its anthelmintic properties. Bakayan is used in problems like stomach worms, indigestion, stomach ache or frequent diarrhea. Its bark and seeds help in cleaning the intestines and destroying parasites. This is the reason why it is also considered a medicine that strengthens the digestive system. It also helps in detoxifying the liver and cleaning the body.
Bakayan also shows effect in joint pain, swelling and arthritis. Applying a paste of its leaves or seeds provides relief from pain and stiffness. Ayurveda believes that when the body remains clean from inside, swelling and pain automatically start reducing. Apart from this, the antibacterial and antifungal properties present in Bakayan also help in protecting the body from infections.
Bakayan is also considered useful for women’s health. It is given by mixing it with other herbs in case of heavy menstruation, white discharge and some uterus related problems.
Bakayan is very beneficial, but it is important to use it wisely. Its excessive quantity can be harmful. Pregnant women, children, and people suffering from serious diseases must consult an Ayurvedacharya before consuming it.
