Bangladesh: Two killed in dengue, 217 lost their lives so far this year

Dhaka, 7 October (IANS). In Bangladesh, two more people lost their lives due to dengue in 24 hours till Tuesday morning, causing the death toll from mosquito -borne disease in the country to 217 in 2025. Local media gave this information.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), two people died in Dhaka South and Northern Municipal Corporations. According to the report of United News of Bangladesh (UNB), during this period, 715 more people were admitted to hospital due to viral fever, leading to a total number of cases in 2025 to 51,404.

Currently, 859 patients are undergoing treatment in Dhaka, while 2,520 patients are undergoing treatment in various hospitals in Bangladesh. New cases have been reported. Among the infected patients, 60.9 percent are men and 39.1 percent are females.

According to DGHS, a total of 575 people died of dengue in 2024. During the same period, 101,214 cases of dengue were reported in Bangladesh and 100,040 people rectified.

Last week, local media said that last week, the Health Directorate of Bangladesh had urged all patients suffering from fever to go to the hospital immediately to undergo dengue check and seek medical assistance immediately when the report came positive.

Speaking to Bangladesh’s leading newspaper, The Daily Star, Director (Hospital) of the Director of Health Services (Hospital) Abu Hussain Moinul Ahsan said that delay in hospitalization is a major cause of increase in dengue deaths.

A statement issued by DGHS said, “Mainly, the condition of the patients is deteriorating due to delay in reaching the hospital. Late hospitalization or doctors make it difficult to treat complex cases.”

The hospital administration has said that adequate medicines, saline and dengue test kits are available in all hospitals. However, he also said that it is necessary to ensure early detection of dengue, effective measures of treatment and mosquito control according to guidelines.
