Chandigarh, July 2 (IANS). Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema has approved broad administrative proposals for recruitment of 619 Female Multipurpose Health Workers (MPHWs) under the Health and Family Welfare Department. The objective of this step is to improve the quality of public health services and make the system of service delivery to the people more effective.
Cheema said in a statement that these posts are a strategic mix of direct recruitment and promotion quota within the department.
Finance Minister Harpal Cheema said that out of the total 619 posts, 220 posts are vacant for less than a year, while 346 posts are earmarked for promotion, through which trained midwives (trained midwives) will be promoted to the post of Multipurpose Health Worker (MPHW).
He said that 53 direct recruitment posts, which were abolished under the Finance Department’s guidelines dated June 6, 2019 due to remaining vacant for more than a year, would be reinstated after the approval of the Council of Ministers.
Cheema said that the health workers to be appointed will get a pay scale of Rs 21,700 to Rs 69,100 in Level-3 under the Punjab Health and Family Welfare Technical (Group-C) Services (First Amendment) Rules, 2025.
To make the recruitment process faster and effective, the state government has decided to keep the recruitment of these 619 posts out of the purview of the Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board, as recruitment through the board usually takes more time.
Instead, the entire recruitment process will be done directly through Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot. In this regard, Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board has also given formal consent on December 3, 2025.
The Finance Minister said that filling up these posts will put an additional financial burden of about Rs 16.12 crore per year on the state government during the mandatory probation period.
Referring to the administrative reforms in the industrial sector, Cheema said that an important proposal of the Industries Department has also been approved, under which important posts with direct recruitment will be reinstated to maintain the efficiency of the department.
