Patna, December 19 (IANS). The Principal of Bihar’s Government Tibbi College said on Friday that Dr. Nusrat will take charge on December 20. Dr Nusrat’s name came into limelight after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar removed her hijab during a function in Patna a few days ago.
The hijab-related incident had created a political storm in the country, with opposition parties accusing the Chief Minister of insulting a Muslim woman doctor.
Professor (Dr.) Mohammad Mahfoozur Rahman, Principal of Government Tibbi College, Patna, said that Dr. Nusrat had spoken to her close friend Bilkis and said that this matter was being unnecessarily blown out of proportion.
Dr Nusrat, a postgraduate student of Government Tibbi College, did not come to the college for the last four days, leading to speculations that she was emotionally hurt by the incident.
However, college teachers described her as a smart and disciplined student who has been wearing hijab continuously for the last seven years.
Dr Nusrat remained silent immediately after the incident, but has now decided to resume her professional responsibilities.
According to his classmates, he is ready to assume his new charge on time.
Dr Rehman said the incident had been misrepresented and it was being claimed that the Chief Minister’s intention was neither malicious nor derogatory. This gesture of Nitish Kumar is being described as affectionate and is being compared to the gesture of a parent.
He also accused some sections of political parties of trying to tarnish the image of the Chief Minister who has continuously worked for women empowerment.
Bilkis, a close friend and classmate of Dr Nusrat Parveen, confirmed that she will take charge on December 20.
Nitish Kumar got embroiled in controversy after removing the hijab of Dr. Nusrat during the appointment letter distribution ceremony in Patna on 15 December.
This incident, which came to light through a video clip, was strongly criticized across the country.
