Ouagadougou, May 24 (IANS). Central African country Burkina Faso has further strengthened measures to prevent Ebola virus disease. Health officials have stressed that no case has been reported so far in the country.
Burkina Faso’s Health Ministry has issued a statement saying that epidemiological surveillance has been strengthened in the country due to the potential threat of Ebola, especially at the country’s entry points. All health facilities have been put on alert so that any suspected case can be identified quickly. Along with this, the capacity of national laboratories has been increased and mobile labs are also being deployed so that cases can be investigated immediately.
The government has also stepped up preparation of isolation centers and treatment facilities and the Emergency Health Response Operation Center has been activated. However, till now no case of Ebola has been registered in the country.
Amid the increasing threat of Ebola in Africa, India has sent the first consignment of essential medical supplies and safety kits to the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar posted on X that India stands strongly with Africa in this public health emergency. The government has also advised citizens of India to follow local health guidelines and take extra precautions while staying or traveling in Congo, Uganda and South Sudan.
The World Health Organization has declared the situation a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC).
