New Delhi, January 15 (IANS). Everyone talks about what things to consume in winter are beneficial for the body, but no one tells what not to eat.

In winter, we unknowingly consume such things which contribute to making the body sick. Today we will learn about those 5 food and drinks, whose consumption should be avoided in winter.

In winter, digestion slows down and digestive fire increases. Meaning, you feel more hungry and it takes more time to digest. Our body reduces the blood flow to vital organs to save heat, due to which the organs start working slower than normal and the same happens with the digestive process. In such a situation, some food and beverages can cause harm and make you sick.

Curd comes first. One should avoid eating curd in winter because its cold nature increases phlegm and can cause problems like cold, cough, sinus, chest pain and difficulty in breathing. Cucumber is at second place. One should avoid consuming cucumber in winter, because it works to slow down the digestive fire, due to which the food in the stomach starts rotting instead of being digested. Its effect is cold, which can also cause cough.

Sprouted grains come at third place. Sprouted grains are packed with calcium, vitamins and protein, but the stomach has to work harder than usual to digest them. Sprouted grains are eaten raw or half-boiled, which can cause gas formation and pain in the stomach. At number four are more sweet things. One should avoid eating too many sweet things in winter, because it helps in increasing Vata and Kapha dosha. Jaggery is used in every food item during winter season. If you have cough problem then you should avoid jaggery.

At number five is excessive consumption of tea and coffee. In winter, excessive consumption of tea and coffee is done to keep the body warm, which is wrong. Vata dosha naturally increases in winter. In such a situation, consumption of tea and coffee can cause burning sensation in the stomach.
