Thiruvananthapuram, January 15 (IANS). The death of 17-year-old Iona Monson, a Class 12 student in Payyavoor, a hill town in Kannur district of Kerala, has left the entire area in grief. However, amidst this deep sorrow, Iona and her family took a decision that gave new hope to many lives.
Iona studied in a school in Payyavoor. On Monday morning she allegedly jumped from the school building, leaving her seriously injured. This incident happened just a few days before her laboratory model examinations.
In an injured condition, she was admitted to a private hospital in Kannur, where she was on ventilator support in the ICU. Despite all efforts, he died on Wednesday night. The police is investigating the matter
Ioana was known by her teachers and classmates as a bright, affectionate, and hard-working student. Along with studies, she was ahead in other activities also.
In this most difficult time, Ioana’s parents took an extraordinary and humane decision. He agreed to donate his daughter’s organs. Iona’s heart, both kidneys and other vital organs were donated, giving new life to many critically ill patients.
One of Iona’s kidneys was sent to Thiruvananthapuram via a domestic flight. This was the first time in the state that an internal flight was used for organ transportation. A green corridor was created from the airport to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital so that the transplant could be done on time.
At the same time, Iona’s heart was sent to Chennai, where a serious patient was undergoing treatment. Other organs were donated to needy patients in different parts of Kerala.
The parents say, “He may not be among us, but through him others are getting life.”
Iona’s funeral will be held at 2:30 pm on Friday at the graveyard of St Francis of Assisi Church in Tirur.
