New Delhi, 12 September (IAAS). The Department of Neurosurgery of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi has reached new heights globally. Edunk, a prestigious agency, which assessed the quality of higher education institutions internationally, has given AIIMS Neurosurgery Department in the world 11th, second in Asia and first in India.
The assessment was made between 14,131 universities in 183 countries. It analyzed more than 11.52 crore scientific research papers and about 296 crore quotes. Edurank made an impartial and transparent assessment using parameters such as Openalex database, modern search engines and alumni scores.
AIIMS’s Neurosurgery Department UCLA Los Angeles, University of Pittsburgh, Germany’s Charite-Medical University, France’s Pierre and Mary Curie University, Switzerland’s University of Burn, Northwestern University and even Oxford University have overtaken world famous institutions.
Head of Department Prof. P Sarat Chandra said that this department has a rich heritage. The department on 1 March 1965 Prof. PN Tandon and Prof. AK Banerjee was established. Today we are standing on his foundation. Currently it is one of the largest neurosurgery departments in the world, where more than 6 thousand surgery is performed every year. The department has 9 state -of -the -art operating rooms, more than 24 faculty members, 38 residents and 7 failures.
He also said that this department is currently one of the largest departments in the world, where more than 9,000 surgery is performed annually with more than 9 operating rooms. It has more than 24 faculty, more than 38 residents and 7 fellow. We have all the modern facilities that should be in a state -of -the -art department, including state -of -the -art operating rooms, robotics and a gamma knife. We also have a state -of -the -art skill training laboratory that provides training to debutant neurosurons and also equipped with simulators.
He further stated that our fellowship programs also include advanced features such as epilepsy and functional neurosurgery, scull base and cerebrovascular surgery, children’s neurosurgery and spine surgery. Following the tradition of our founders, our department has been unique in the sense that it has basic science research facilities including connectomics, intracellular-electrophiziology and genomics. We publish a large number of papers every year in both clinical and basic science research, which is probably one of the few such departments in the world.
