New Delhi, March 30 (IANS). White discharge (leucorrhoea) is a common problem in women, but taking it lightly can prove to be dangerous. Often women ignore it considering it to be a normal or hormonal change, but if timely attention is not given, it can cause serious infection.
Leukorrhea is of two types, physiological and pathological. Physiological leucorrhoea occurs due to hormonal changes during ovulation (time between periods), before menstruation, during pregnancy and adolescence. In this condition the color of the water coming out of the body is white or transparent. There is no itching, burning, or pain, and there is no odor, but if the discharge has an unusual color, odor, or amount, it may be a sign of an infection or other problem. This may include conditions such as Candida, Trichomonas or bacterial infections, chronic cervicitis or sometimes senile vaginitis and PID (pelvic inflammatory disease) infections.
To find out the cause of leucorrhoea, it is necessary to consult a doctor and undergo a complete examination. This includes taking a detailed medical history, performing a pelvic and vaginal examination, and testing for infection with a vaginal smear, if necessary. If serious causes are ignored early on, it can spread to overlying genital structures and lead to serious infections such as endometritis, salpingitis and peritonitis.
In such a situation, home and Ayurvedic remedies can also be very helpful.
For example, amla powder or paste, taken with honey and sugar, twice a day for 15 days may improve vaginal health. Apart from this, the paste of fresh leaves of Nyagrodha, Uddhumbara, Ashvattha and Plaksha, which should be mixed with Tandulodak i.e. rice washing water and used twice a day for 15 days, is also beneficial.
Along with this, it is also important to adopt some important precautions. Maintain personal hygiene, especially during menstruation. Use pads instead of cloth and keep changing them from time to time. Along with this, definitely use protection while having physical relations.
