Imphal, April 3 (IANS). A doctor from Manipur’s Senapati district saved the life of a 21-year-old passenger during a medical emergency on an Air India flight from Tokyo to New Delhi.
Dr. Loni Lirina, a critical care specialist at Babina Specialty Hospital, American Oncology Institute, Imphal, was traveling on that flight. During this time, a young woman started having severe trouble breathing and the flight crew announced for medical help. Soon after, Dr. Lirina came forward to help the passenger.
On examination, he immediately advised oxygen support, nebulization and necessary medicines to stabilize the patient’s condition. Due to the doctor’s promptness and timely decisions, the woman’s condition improved significantly within 30 minutes. After getting proper care immediately, there was no need for emergency landing of the flight. The flight landed safely in New Delhi. The condition of the female passenger is said to be stable.
Dr. Lirina told that the passenger was suffering from asthma since childhood, but she was not taking any medicine for it for the last several years. He said in a video message, “On examination, it was found that the patient was having severe difficulty in breathing; her heartbeat was more than 160 beats per minute, blood pressure was low, and oxygen saturation (oxygen level) was only 80 percent. By the grace of God, after giving the medicine, the woman’s condition became stable.”
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh praised Dr. Lirina’s timely life-saving efforts. “Saving someone’s life is a great example of both skill and humanity,” he wrote on social media platform X.
He said, “I sincerely thank Dr. Loni Lirina from Senapati district of Manipur. The courage and timely medical help she provided to save the life of a 21-year-old passenger suffering from severe chest pain and difficulty in breathing on an Air India flight from Tokyo to Delhi is truly commendable. Her prompt help, her excellent medical skills and her His steadfast devotion to his noble profession reflects the highest ideals of medical service.”
The Chief Minister further said that such acts of humanity and honesty towards one’s profession are a matter of great pride for Manipur and act as an inspiration for all. I express my gratitude to him and commend him for this remarkable act of service.”
