Thursday’s puja is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Brihaspati (Jupiter), the guru of the gods. Yellow color is considered auspicious on this day. Taking bath in the morning, wearing yellow clothes and performing puja is considered beneficial. Turmeric has special significance in Thursday puja. Turmeric is associated with Lord Vishnu and Jupiter. It is believed to bring positive energy to the house and increase prosperity and well-being. It is also believed that using turmeric helps in overcoming financial difficulties.
Turmeric is used in many ways during Thursday puja. Taking bath with turmeric water, applying turmeric tilak on the forehead, or sprinkling turmeric water on the main door is considered auspicious. It is believed that this reduces financial obstacles. Special attention is given to the worship of Lord Vishnu on Thursday. After taking bath in the morning, the idols of Lord Vishnu and Jupiter are installed. Yellow flowers, turmeric, jaggery, gram dal and raisins are offered during the puja.
It is believed that anointing Lord Vishnu with turmeric water brings blessings of Lakshmi Narayan. It is said that this brings financial benefits, career advancement and freedom from the evil effects of Jupiter (Guru Dosha). At the end of the puja, the banana tree is worshipped. Turmeric water is offered to him. Reciting Brihaspati Vrat Katha and performing Aarti brings knowledge, wealth and good fortune. It is believed that by observing fast for 21 consecutive Thursdays, the wishes of the devotee are fulfilled.
