Mumbai, June 8 (IANS). People use air conditioner (AC) to cope with the scorching heat and rising temperatures, but its prolonged use can affect the skin moisture barrier. The air in the room becomes dry, causing water to evaporate quickly from the skin and hair. This is the reason why problems like dryness, itching, hair fall and skin irritation are seen more in people who stay in AC for a long time. If proper care is taken, these can be avoided to a great extent.
According to dermatologists, the amount of moisture in the AC air is very low, due to which the upper layer of the skin, i.e. the skin barrier, starts weakening. This barrier protects our skin from external damage and water loss. When it is weak, the skin becomes dry quickly and problems like itching or rashes may start. The most important solution to avoid this condition is to moisturize the skin externally. Use of moisturizing cream or lotion is very helpful in this. These creams form a light protective layer on the skin, which reduces water loss and keeps the skin soft for a longer period of time.
Bathing habit also affects skin health. Using lukewarm water is considered balanced for the skin. It cleanses the skin pores and helps retain natural moisture. This method keeps the lipid balance of the skin stable, due to which the skin remains healthy for a longer time.
Hydrating face masks are essential for deep skin care, providing essential nutrients and moisture. The natural elements present in them help in retaining water in the skin cells, thereby maintaining the elasticity and glow of the skin. Regularly applying hydrating masks strengthens the skin’s outer layer and increases protection from environmental damage.
Talking about hair, AC air also affects the moisture of hair. When the outer layer of the hair, i.e. the cuticle, dries up, the hair becomes dry, weak and starts breaking. In such a situation, use of moisturizing shampoo and conditioner is necessary. These products help retain moisture in the hair and preserve its natural shine.
