Mumbai, January 16 (IANS). Surya Namaskar is an ancient part of yoga, which is considered extremely beneficial for physical and mental balance. The Ministry of AYUSH shared the 12 postures of Surya Namaskar on Instagram on Friday and explained its importance.
The Ministry of AYUSH said that these 12 postures of Surya Namaskar activate almost every muscle of the body. It is also an effective means of bringing flexibility to the body, reducing weight and improving metabolism. Also, its practice with correct breathing process also provides mental peace and physical strength.
Before practicing Surya Namaskar, it is important to know correct breathing. According to the Ministry of AYUSH, initially the palms should be joined in Namaskar Mudra, which focuses attention and stabilizes the mind. This posture not only increases mental concentration but also prepares the body posture in the right direction.
Next, when you bend backwards, the spine of the body becomes flexible and the lungs open up, making way for more oxygen to enter the lungs. Breathing is very important in this process, which energizes the body.
In the next step, tilting the head downwards improves the blood circulation of the body. This posture is especially helpful in reducing headache and stress. Additionally, when you bend the body forward and activate the shoulders and waist, it relieves back pain and shoulder stiffness. Imitation of these postures while exhaling and inhaling relaxes the muscles of the body and also increases strength in them.
Another special thing about Surya Namaskar is that it motivates the entire body to work together. As you move through these 12 postures, the muscles of your chest, abdomen, arms, legs and back are activated. This process improves blood circulation and the body parts get adequate nutrition. Metabolism also increases, which helps in reducing weight. This is especially beneficial for those who want to make time for exercise in their daily routine and also want to be free from stress.
The postures of Surya Namaskar include many movements of twisting, bending and extending the body, which play an important role in increasing flexibility. This flexibility not only protects from physical injuries, but also makes the muscles stronger. Additionally, regular exercise also improves physical balance and endurance.
The 12 postures given in the post of Ministry of AYUSH have their own unique benefits. Like the starting pose, where the hands are in Namaskar Mudra, it focuses attention. Then slowly bending the body back strengthens the spine. Keeping the head down reduces stress and bending forward stretches the muscles. The combination of all these postures gives a good workout to the entire body, which not only makes the body fit but also removes mental fatigue.
Regular practice of Surya Namaskar is also considered very effective for weight loss. This exercise helps in reducing calories of the entire body and speeds up the metabolism. This also benefits the internal organs of the body and the digestive system works better. Also, it strengthens the body’s immune system, making us able to fight diseases.
