New Delhi, March 4 (IANS). People across the country and the world are celebrating the festival of colors, Holi, with enthusiasm. Holi is a festival of colors, happiness and interaction with friends and family. However, health is often ignored in the festive cheer. In such a situation, the Ministry of AYUSH gives suggestions regarding the food of Holi.
This time, the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India has issued special advice to make Holi healthy and fun. The Ministry says that this auspicious occasion of colors should be full of happiness and fun, but choose balanced and natural things in food wisely. Drinking plenty of water, eating light and nutritious food and staying away from junk food makes this festival healthy.
What should be eaten on Holi? The ministry has released its list. These include bhelpuri (light and spicy), chikki (made with jaggery and peanuts), roasted beans and gram, dry fruits (almonds, cashews, raisins etc.), besan cheela, vegetable sandwiches with whole wheat bread, and sprouts chaat, all these options are nutritious, light and easy to digest. These give energy, do not weigh the stomach and keep the body fit even during the festive season.
The ministry has also clearly forbidden some things because they can cause stomach upset or increase weight during the festival. These include aerated drinks i.e. cold drinks, soda etc. Chips and potato fingers, vegetable burgers, candies and chocolates, samosas, bread pakoras and similar fried outside dishes.
The Ministry of AYUSH says that eating too much sweet, fried and processed food on the day of Holi can cause acidity, heaviness and fatigue. Instead, drink plenty of water, so that the body remains hydrated and feels refreshed even after playing colors. Choosing natural and household things doubles the joy of the festival and also keeps health safe.
