New Delhi, June 17 (IANS). Psychiatrists have given mixed reactions to Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Kota and interaction program with students amid NEET-UG examination and increasing mental pressure on students. Experts believe that there is a need to seriously understand the impact of mental health, exam related stress and political activities on students.

Dr. ML Aggarwal, senior psychiatrist, Kota, while talking to IANS, said, “There are many hidden reasons for depression and stress in students. According to him, leaving aside the coaching institutes, the biggest problem is related to the selection of subjects. Many times, parents ignore the interest and potential of children and impose such subjects on them in which they are not interested. In some cases, teachers also motivate students to move in a certain direction. When a student When decisions are taken against the wishes of the person, then stress and mental pressure begin.”

Commenting on Rahul Gandhi’s programme, Dr Aggarwal said, “It has become a common trend in Indian politics that the opposition opposes the policies and steps of the ruling party. When a political party is in power, it discusses exam irregularities relatively less, but after coming to the opposition, the same issues are raised prominently.”

He also said that such programs organized just before the exams can divert the attention of the students. Some students may be influenced by these events, while some will maintain distance from it. He advised students, especially those preparing for exams, to stay away from such programs.

Delhi-based psychiatrist Dr. Rajeev Mehta said that the relevance of any rally or program depends on its purpose. If the purpose is only to lodge a protest then this can be done at any time. However, if the purpose of the program is to disrupt the examinations or demand their cancellation, then it cannot be considered appropriate. If its purpose is to put pressure on the government to improve and bring transparency in the education system, then it can be seen as a positive initiative.

Jaipur psychiatrist Dr. Shiv Gautam also expressed concern over organizing political meetings before the examination. He said that at such a time, the morale of students should not be allowed to fall and political parties should rise above electoral or political interests and give priority to the interests of students. On the re-organization of NEET-UG, he said that this has definitely increased additional mental pressure on the students. However, he also said that this time the government is trying to create a more robust and secure system to prevent incidents like paper leaks, which is expected to provide relief to the students.
