Forgotten Mineral! A 'green weapon' that removes problems like fatigue, stress and sugar

New Delhi, November 13 (IANS). Everyone is generally aware of the deficiency of iron and calcium. We quickly present detailed articles and ideas on its advantages and disadvantages. But these days there is a lot of talk about ‘Green Weapon’. This is a weapon that silently blunts the edge of problems like fatigue, stress and sugar. This is the nutrient which health experts are calling the ‘forgotten mineral’ these days. This is the forgotten mineral ‘Magnesium’.

Recent research shows that its green form, i.e. chlorophyll-rich green magnesium, is essential for our body’s energy, sleep and mental balance.

According to a 2025 study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, about 70 percent of the world’s population has below normal magnesium levels. The biggest reason for this is fast food, processed diet and stress-filled daily routine. This deficiency leads us to fatigue, insomnia, blood sugar imbalance and even anxiety.

Magnesium is involved in more than 300 biochemical functions in the body (from heartbeat to insulin control to muscle energy). But ‘green magnesium’ or ‘plant-sourced magnesium’, which is bound to chlorophyll, is absorbed more slowly and balancedly into the body. This is why it is now being called ‘sustainable mineral’.

Experts say that spinach, fenugreek, drumstick leaves, beetroot leaves, peas, avocado and sunflower seeds are green magnesium powerhouses. A 2024 study from the University of Tokyo found that people who ate a cup of green leafy vegetables daily had 25 percent less blood sugar spikes and 30 percent better sleep quality.

Interestingly, the ‘green magnesium diet’ is also linked to mental health. Chlorophyll and magnesium together activate a neurotransmitter called ‘gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)’, which is responsible for reducing stress and anxiety. This is why many nutritionists now call it a ‘natural relaxer’.

Many fitness experts now recommend a “green smoothie routine.” In the morning, a drink made of spinach, kiwi, lemon and flax seeds, which keeps both energy and blood sugar balanced. Ayurvedic experts in India call it “green energy”.

Experts warn that it is better to get magnesium from natural sources rather than supplements. Excessive supplement consumption can cause problems like mineral imbalance or diarrhea in the body. WHO Nutrition Guidelines (2025) also say, “70–80 percent of daily nutritional needs should be met by food, not capsules.”
