It has been learned that Imran Khan, who is currently in jail, is suffering from a serious eye disease called Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO). His party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), claims that if he does not get timely treatment, he may lose his eyesight forever. What is CRVO and how dangerous is this disease?
Central retinal vein occlusion is a dangerous eye disease. In this condition, a blood clot forms in the main vein of the retina, blocking blood circulation inside the eye. It has a direct effect on the retina, causing blurred vision. According to doctors, if it is not treated, this disease can take away eyesight forever. According to reports, Imran Khan has been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion in his right eye, and he is already having trouble seeing clearly.
Accusations on jail administration regarding treatment
According to reports, the jail administration is not providing proper medical treatment to Imran Khan. Imran Khan’s party, PTI, says that doctors have clearly said that the treatment of this disease is not possible in the jail premises and it requires special medical facilities and surgery. Despite this, the jail administration is adamant on providing treatment inside the jail itself. According to PTI, Imran Khan was last allowed to meet his personal doctor in October 2024. Since then, despite orders from the Islamabad High Court, his personal doctors have not been allowed to meet him.

73-year-old Imran Khan has been in jail since August 2023 and has been kept alone most of the time. His lawyers and party leaders say no one has been allowed to meet him for the past three months, even though the court had ordered that family and lawyers can meet him twice a week. The party claims that Imran Khan has not been able to meet his lawyers for almost 100 days. Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s sisters, lawyers and PTI leaders are continuously protesting outside the jail. Many times the police have used tear gas and water cannons to disperse these protests. It is worth noting that Imran Khan served as the Prime Minister of Pakistan from 2018 to 2022. He was arrested in August 2023 after being removed from power through a no-confidence motion.
