New Delhi, April 29 (IANS). The heat wave is increasing rapidly across the country. In the last week of April itself, the temperature in many states has reached much above normal. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of more extreme heat in the coming days. This heat of summer can have a serious impact on people’s health. In such a situation, it is very important to take precautions in time.

Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India has appealed to the general public to adopt necessary measures to avoid heat related diseases. According to the ministry, heat-related diseases can be prevented if right steps are taken at the right time.

First of all, do not be careless about your health amidst the scorching heat and rising temperatures. If you are feeling unwell, immediately go to a cool place and keep yourself well hydrated by drinking enough water and keep an eye on your body temperature and if necessary, consult a doctor without delay.

The most common problems in the rising heat are heat exhaustion and heat stroke. If a person suddenly starts feeling unwell, gets dizzy, has muscle cramps, sweats excessively or stops sweating, then it should be considered as serious symptoms. In such a situation, health experts immediately recommend some important measures.

For this, immediately take the person to a cool and ventilated place, keep checking the body temperature frequently, consume electrolyte-rich fluids like lemon water, salt-sugar solution, buttermilk or oral rehydration solution (ORS). Keep the body hydrated with plain water as well as electrolytes. If symptoms become severe, seek medical help immediately and contact a doctor.

The Ministry of AYUSH has appealed to the people to wear light colored loose clothes during the summer season, avoid going out in the sun between 12 noon to 4 pm and keep adequate ventilation even inside the house. Health experts say that children, the elderly and those who are already ill are most at risk from heat. Therefore they need special care.
