Gandhinagar, May 12 (IANS). Comparing the health systems of developed countries and India, Gujarat Health Minister Praful Pansheriya on Tuesday said that in developed countries there is often a long wait for treatment, while Gujarat’s public health system provides quick treatment through services.
He said these things while addressing the ‘International Nurses Day’ function organized at GMERS Medical College and Civil Hospital, Gandhinagar.
The event was organized to commemorate the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, considered the founder of modern nursing.
Pansheriya said that nursing is not only defined by technical proficiency but also by behavior and communication with patients.
He said that service, dedication and excellent conduct are the true identity of the nursing profession. He further said that in hospitals, patients need emotional support as much as they need medical treatment.
Referring to international health systems, he said that despite advanced infrastructure in countries like Canada and the United States, patients often face delays in getting treatment due to systematic waiting lists.
He compared it with Gujarat’s emergency response system, saying systems like 108 ambulances and government hospitals are aimed at ensuring timely intervention in critical cases.
The minister also referred to the COVID-19 pandemic and said Gujarat’s nursing staff played a vital role in handling healthcare pressures during the crisis.
He said that during the Covid period, when the health systems of developed countries were struggling, the nurses of Gujarat became ‘thousands of Florence Nightingales’ and saved lives.
The Health Minister further said that they worked in challenging circumstances and made significant contributions in saving lives at a time when many developed countries were also facing limitations in health services.
