Gandhinagar, May 17 (IANS). Gujarat Health Minister Praful Pansheriya on Sunday directed to take strict action against a pharmacist. The pharmacist is accused of negligence towards the patients. The action was taken after reports emerged of medicines allegedly not being given to patients despite adequate stock being available in the state’s health system.
According to the Health Department, the Minister took serious cognizance of the matter and directed the officials to immediately investigate the allegations.
Gujarat Government reiterated that negligence in matters relating to patient welfare and health services will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Officials said that investigation found that sufficient stock of medicines was available in Gandhinagar.
However, despite the availability of medicines, many patients reportedly did not get the required medicines, leading to complaints about the functioning of the staff concerned.
Based on the findings of preliminary investigation, Prashant Shrimali, Junior Pharmacist, Kutch, posted at Visnagar, has been transferred with immediate effect.
The department has also issued instructions to initiate a departmental inquiry against Shrimali so that the matter can be thoroughly investigated and accountability can be fixed.
Health department officials said this action reflects the state government’s commitment towards maintaining accountability and discipline in the public health system.
He further said that strict steps are being taken to ensure that the patients coming to government hospitals and health centers can get medicines and treatment without any inconvenience.
The department reiterated its commitment to provide timely and quality health services to citizens across Gujarat.
Officials said uninterrupted supply and proper distribution of medicines at government medical centers is one of the top priorities of the state administration.
The officials also warned that strict disciplinary action will be taken in future also against any dereliction, neglect or misconduct in duty by health workers, which affects patient care.
Health officials said patient welfare and efficient healthcare delivery remain at the center of the health policies and administrative priorities of the Gujarat government.
