Bhavnagar, December 18 (IANS). There has been a significant improvement in the proportion of girls in Jessore taluka of Bhavnagar district of Gujarat. According to officials, government welfare schemes to promote the birth, education and empowerment of girls are showing good results at the ground level.
Key initiatives like the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Yojana of the Central Government along with programs like Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana and Vahli Dikri Yojana of the Gujarat Government have played an important role in changing the social mindset and strengthening the support system for girls.
As a result, Jessore taluka has seen a significant increase in the number of girl births. According to the data released by the health department of Bhavnagar District Panchayat, the ratio of girls in Jessore taluka has reached 1,075 during 2024-25.
This means that for every 1,000 boys born in the taluka, 1,075 girls are born, which is an encouraging sign of positive population change.
Local women attribute this achievement to the continuous awareness campaigns and welfare-centric governance under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
He says government initiatives to support daughters’ upbringing, education and future security have helped families shed long-held prejudices and welcome the birth of girls.
Officials attribute this improvement to the consistent efforts of the state government and local administration.
Along with awareness campaigns to eliminate gender discrimination, sonography centers are being closely monitored to prevent illegal prenatal sex determination.
Health officials say comprehensive support, from financial incentives at birth to educational assistance and career guidance, has collectively contributed to this success.
The progress achieved by Jessore Taluka is a strong example of how policy intervention and community participation can bring about meaningful social change.
The increasing proportion of girls in Jessore taluka sends a powerful message, daughters are not a burden but a blessing and an integral part of a balanced and progressive society.
