New Delhi. The Supreme Court has said that it will take a strict stand in cases of fraud on the pretext of digital arrest. Justice Surya Kant, Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice Jaimalya Bagchi heard the case on Monday. The Central Government told the Supreme Court that Indians have been defrauded only to the tune of Rs 3000 crore by making digital arrests. Most of the victims are elderly. Those who lost their savings to fraudsters.

On this, the bench headed by Justice Surya Kant said that if we turn a blind eye to this problem or bow down before it and do not give strict orders, then the problem will increase further. The court said that we want to deal with the problem of digital arrest with a strong hand. After receiving the letter from an elderly couple living in Ambala, Haryana, the Supreme Court is taking cognizance and hearing the matter on its own. The thugs took Rs 1 crore by luring the couple with digital arrest. In the latest hearing, the Home Ministry and CBI submitted their reports in a sealed envelope. The court has appointed senior advocate NS Nappinai as its assistant in this matter.

After seeing the report of the Home Ministry, the court said that the problem seems to be bigger than what was thought. The Supreme Court bench said that it is shocking to see that the victims were defrauded of Rs 3000 crore. The court said that this figure is only for India. Don’t know how many more victims there are around the world. On behalf of the Centre, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that the Home Ministry has created a separate unit to deal with fraud in the name of digital arrest. The bench decided to share information about the case with the help of the court. So that their suggestions can be taken. The court said that some of the issues mentioned in the report are very important. The Supreme Court bench said that apart from receiving a letter written by an elderly couple from Ambala in September, the victims of digital arrest had also informed the court about this earlier.
