Dhaka, July 18 (IANS). In Bangladesh, the number of deaths of children due to suspicious symptoms like measles continues. Four children with measles-like symptoms died in the last 24 hours till 8 am on Saturday. With this, the total number of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths in the country has reached 784. At the same time, dengue has also increased the problems of the health department. So far this year, 33 people have lost their lives due to dengue.
Bangladesh news agency UNB quoted the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) as saying that the deaths within 24 hours have been classified as ‘suspected measles deaths’.
After the latest data, the number of deaths due to measles-like symptoms has increased to 689, while the number of measles deaths confirmed by lab tests remains stable at 95.
According to the Health Department, 699 new suspected measles cases have been reported in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of suspected cases across the country has increased to 1,16,710.
During the same period, 74 new cases of measles were confirmed through lab tests, taking the total number of infected people in the country to 14,318.
According to DGHS data, 99,249 suspected measles patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country since March 15. Of these, 95,529 patients have returned home after treatment, while the treatment of other patients is going on.
Health officials say measles cases are being continuously monitored across the country. Hospitals have been instructed to remain alert and increase surveillance in the affected areas. Also, people have been appealed to vaccinate their children on time and seek medical help immediately if measles-like symptoms appear.
Mosquito-borne dengue has also wreaked havoc on Bangladeshis. Till 8 am on Saturday (in the last 24 hours), one person died due to dengue, while 242 new patients were admitted to various hospitals across the country.
According to DGHS, the death toll due to dengue this year has increased to 33. According to the Health Department, after the arrival of new patients, the monitoring and treatment system of dengue cases in hospitals has been further strengthened. Health officials in the affected areas have been instructed to remain alert.
DGHS has appealed to the citizens to destroy mosquito breeding sites, maintain cleanliness in and around the house and seek medical advice immediately if dengue-like symptoms appear.
