New Delhi, February 7 (IANS). White sugar or table sugar is a part of every household kitchen, and is used in every dish from tea to sweet dishes.
White sugar is very dangerous for health, because it contains up to 90 percent sucrose, which rapidly increases the sugar level in the blood and if consumed for a long time, can cause obesity, diabetes and many diseases. This is why white sugar is also called sweet poison.
If you are also fond of sweets and take white sugar in your diet, then stop it immediately. Instead of sweets, you can include these five alternatives in your diet which are many times better than white sugar.
The first is dates. Two types of dates are available in the market. One naturally ripened and the other cooked in jaggery. Both dates have their own benefits, but to reduce sweet cravings, it is beneficial to consume naturally ripe dates. Not only are they sweet in taste, they also work to balance hormones.
Another option is coconut sugar. Sugar made from coconut juice has a low glycemic index that doesn’t spike blood sugar, and it’s rich in minerals and antioxidants, but yes, it is high in calories. It can be used in place of everyday white sugar.
The third option is stevia, also known as sweet basil. Products made from it have zero calories and zero sugar, but it comes with a mild sweet and bitter taste. The special thing is that consuming stevia does not increase the sugar level. Apart from this, Stevia can also be used in the treatment of high blood pressure, hypertension, gas acidity, skin diseases etc.
The fourth option is sugar candy with thread. Thread candy is sweet, but it cools the stomach and helps in digestion. Moreover, it contains fewer calories than white sugar.
The fifth option is jaggery or sugar made from jaggery. Jaggery or sugar made from jaggery is easily available in the market. It is less harmful than sugar.
