New Delhi, January 5 (IANS). Diabetes is a dangerous disease, which makes the body weak from inside and reduces the immunity and gives rise to other diseases. However, nature has given many remedies in the form of herbs and plants, consumption of which can provide relief from diabetes.

One such special plant is called Insulin Plant, which can be easily grown at home. Insulin plant is considered helpful in controlling blood sugar and is beneficial for diabetic patients.

Celebrity nutritionist Pooja Makhija informed about the benefits of ‘Insulin Plant’. Along with diabetes, this plant is also effective in the problem of insulin resistance, PCOS and weight loss. According to experts, insulin plant or Costus igneous is helpful in balancing blood sugar. Its leaves contain chlorogenic acid, which helps cells absorb glucose better and promotes insulin production. This keeps the sugar level low.

The insulin plant also plays an important role in keeping the beta cells of the pancreas healthy. This plant is easily available in nurseries and is also easy to grow at home. To get benefit from this, chew 1-2 fresh leaves on an empty stomach in the morning and then do not take anything for some time. Its sugar reducing properties have been confirmed in some research. However, patients taking the medicine should use it only after consulting a doctor and get their sugar levels checked regularly, as there may be a risk of hypoglycemia.

According to experts, to get relief from the problem of diabetes, only medicines or home remedies are not enough, but it is very important to bring changes in lifestyle. For this, eat nutritious and balanced food daily, which includes green vegetables, fruits, whole grains and less sweets. Exercise every day—like brisk walking or cycling. Get good sleep of 7-8 hours at night and drink plenty of water throughout the day. Do yoga or meditation daily to reduce stress.

If the problem is serious then doctor’s advice and regular check-ups are most important. Diabetes can be better controlled by adopting changes.
