India and European Union launched ‘Ideathon’ to deal with marine plastic waste

New Delhi, 26 September (IANS). India and the European Union have launched an ‘Ideathon’ to deal with marine plastic waste. The program invited applications to develop practical and new solutions to solve this global problem from India and European Union startups, researchers, businesses and other parties.

According to Dr. Parvinder Maini, Scientific Secretary, Principal Scientific Advisory Office (OPSA) of the government, ‘Ideathon’ represents a joint effort to develop global and local levels.

Manny said, “It is an excellent example of the shared approach of Ideathon, India and the European Union held on dealing with marine plastic waste, under which impressively impressive solutions will be developed which will solve the problem of plastic pollution in both Indian and European contexts.”

Highlighting the importance of research, innovation and cooperation, he also revived India’s efforts in recent years, including a nationwide ban on single-utilized plastic to prevent Swachh Sagar, safe Sagar campaign and plastic pollution.

Deputy Director General of Research and Innovation in the European Commission, Signe Rives said that the European Union-India-TTC-WG2 ‘Ideathon’ strengthens the European Union Union-India cooperation, as we are united to solve the challenges affecting our shared approach to global stability.

“This initiative brings us together to deal with marine plastic pollution, which is a growing crisis and threatens marine life, public health and coastal economies in our regions,” said Ringso.

OPSA Advisor Dr. Rakesh Kaur and Head of International Cooperation Unit in the Directorate General of Research and Innovation of European Commission, Ninke Buamensman encouraged the participants to actively find cooperative avenues to deal with marine plastic waste.

During this inauguration ceremony, a process of Ideathon Framework was also presented, in which the process, structure, guidelines, and time-limit were outlined.

A scenario of marine plastic waste in India and the European Union respectively, the main research scientist of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Professor Hoysala N. It was presented by John Hanus of Chanakya and the Directorate General of Research and Innovation of the European Commission.

The presentations highlighted the existing challenges of both regions and ongoing research initiatives and emphasized the importance of coordinated and sustainable action to resolve this problem.

Applications for ‘Ideathon’ will be open till 2 October.
