Burhanpur, March 13 (IANS). Under the HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccination campaign in Burhanpur district of Madhya Pradesh, vaccines are being administered at health centers to protect adolescent girls from cervical cancer. Besides, the Health Department is also running a special awareness program to remove the misconceptions related to the vaccine.
District Immunization Officer YB Shastri said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had started the HPV vaccination campaign from Ajmer on 28 February 2026, after which now this campaign is being run in the entire country. He said that hesitation and many misconceptions among people regarding HPV vaccine are a big challenge. To overcome these, media workshops and awareness campaigns are being organized.
According to the Health Department, this vaccination campaign is for adolescent girls aged 9 to 14 years, so that they can get protection from cervical cancer. The department says that this vaccine is completely safe and effective. More and more adolescent girls will be vaccinated by running a campaign in the district for the next three months.
Speaking to IANS, District Immunization Officer YB Shastri said, “This is the HPV vaccination campaign, which has been started by Prime Minister Modi. This campaign will run for three months. Our target is to vaccinate 9,084 adolescent girls who have completed 14 years of age.”
Appealing to the city residents, he said that they should stay away from any kind of misconception regarding vaccination, because the purpose of every vaccination is to increase the body’s ability to fight diseases. This vaccine is considered helpful in increasing the body’s immunity to about 99.7 percent and is effective in preventing cervical cancer. Its side effects are also very less.
He said that HPV virus causes cervical cancer. It is the second most deadly cancer in the country. If this vaccine is administered, its protection lasts for 10 years.
