Burhanpur, January 13 (IANS). Under the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan, a special health camp was organized in the ANC OPD of Burhanpur District Hospital, Madhya Pradesh, the objective of which was to provide timely better health services to pregnant women and strengthen mother-child safety.

In this camp, a total of 40 pregnant women were examined for physical and mental health, out of which 10 women were identified in the high risk pregnancy category. All these women were provided immediate necessary treatment, regular monitoring and consultation with expert doctors, so that any kind of complication could be avoided in future.

Local woman Mangala Bhagat said that under the Prime Minister’s Safe Motherhood Campaign, pregnant women are given information about the importance of vaccination, nutrition and balanced diet at the right time.

He said that at what stage during pregnancy, rest is necessary, what should be eaten and what should be taken special care of, all this was explained in detail in the camp, due to which women are getting a lot of benefit.

Medical Officer Dr. Pratibha Bagar told IANS that under the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan, such camps are organized regularly, in which pregnant women are called and all necessary tests including sonography are done free of cost. Women who are likely to have complications during delivery are identified in advance, so that appropriate treatment and solutions can be provided in time.

According to Dr. Bagar, this scheme is getting very good feedback and due to this, maternal mortality rate has reduced significantly, especially women in rural areas are now getting timely treatment and counseling facilities.

Vandana Missi, Field Officer, Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan, told IANS that this program is organized with complete planning and preparation, which ensures its success. He said that as per the instructions of the Central Government, special camps are being organized for pregnant women, in which a large number of women participate and avail free health services. He said that this campaign has not only increased awareness among pregnant women, but it is also proving to be a strong step towards safe motherhood.

During the camp, pregnant women and their families were given detailed information about the importance of four mandatory prenatal checkups, the role of mental health during pregnancy, its identification and the necessity of institutional delivery for safe motherhood.

Along with this, awareness was also created about the facilities available under CCP, FCC and PMH programs like 24-hour toll-free support services, toll-free numbers and Tele Manas. Health department officials said that this campaign is conducted regularly every month, so that timely identification, treatment and monitoring of pregnant women can be possible and maternal and child mortality rate can be continuously reduced.
