Dhaka, June 9 (IANS) In Bangladesh, measles or its similar symptoms have so far taken the lives of 631 innocent people. According to local media, this has become a matter of great concern for the health department.

According to the Dhaka Tribune, three more children with measles-like symptoms died in the last 24 hours, while 54 new cases of infection were confirmed.

With the three deaths, the total number of deaths related to measles and measles-like symptoms this year has increased to 631. According to the health department, one new confirmed case each was recorded in Dhaka, Sylhet and Mymensingh in the last 24 hours.

According to data from the control room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 980 new suspected patients have emerged in the last 24 hours. Since March 15, 81,084 suspected cases of measles have been reported across the country.

News agency UNB quoted health officials as saying that 54 cases of measles were confirmed in laboratory tests in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases since March 15 to 9,833.

Between March 15 and June 9, 81,084 patients with suspected measles symptoms were admitted to hospitals. Of these, 62,292 patients have recovered and returned home after treatment.

It is a matter of relief that no deaths were reported among the confirmed measles cases in the last 24 hours. However, the total number of deaths among confirmed cases since March 15 has reached 92.

At the same time, three deaths in suspected measles cases were recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of deaths in this category to 539.

According to region-wise data, the highest number of suspected cases have been reported in Dhaka division, where 37,798 patients have been recorded so far. Of these, measles has been confirmed in 6,822 cases.

Health experts have appealed to people to vaccinate children on time, seek medical advice immediately if symptoms appear and take precautions to prevent infection.
