New Delhi, April 15 (IANS). As soon as the summer season starts, along with the temperature, the problem of diabetes also increases. A large number of diabetes patients are found in the country. In such a situation, carelessness in summer can become more dangerous. The good news is that it can be controlled well with proper eating habits and proper calorie count.
According to the National Health Mission, diabetes can be easily controlled in summer by paying attention to right eating habits and calorie count. A balanced diet and adequate calorie intake is the easiest and most effective way to manage diabetes. Correct calorie count keeps blood sugar stable and may also reduce the need for medications.
Increase in blood sugar in diabetes can lead to serious complications like eye problems, kidney failure, nerve problems and heart disease. This problem increases due to excessive sweating and dehydration in summer. Therefore, do not be careless at all.
According to health experts, fill half of your plate with vegetables. Fill one-fourth portion with pulses or protein and the remaining portion with whole grains like jowar, millet, oats, brown rice. Avoid excess rice, potatoes, flour and sweets. Eat fiber rich diet, spinach, broccoli, lady finger, bottle gourd, bitter gourd and pulses daily.
At the same time, completely say no to sugar, sweets, cold drinks, juice and processed food. Consume fruits in limited quantities. For this, apple, guava, papaya, blackberries and seasonal fruits are good options. However, do consult a doctor before consuming sweet fruits.
Eating time is also important. Make a chart for this – have breakfast between 8-9 am, lunch between 1 and 2 pm, and dinner between 7 and 8 pm. If you feel hungry in between, you can take some light snack, like a handful of makhana or curd. Regular 30-minute walks, light exercise and reducing stress also help in controlling diabetes. If blood sugar increases, contact the doctor immediately.
