New Delhi, June 6 (IANS). TB (tuberculosis) is still a health problem in the country. Along with medicines, a balanced and nutritious diet is of special importance during treatment. According to health experts, nutritious food provides necessary energy and strength to the patient’s body, increases the ability to fight disease and helps in quick recovery.
According to the National Health Mission (NHM), the patient’s body becomes very weak during the treatment of TB. In such a situation, nutritious diet gives strength to the body, increases immunity and helps in preventing infections. Health experts say that adopting proper diet along with medicines speeds up recovery and improves the effect of treatment.
Nutritious diet makes the TB patient not only physically but also mentally strong. Be sure to include grains and millets, pulses and proteins, fruits and vegetables (especially seasonal ones) etc. in the patients’ plate.
Cereals and Millets:- Cereals like maize, rice, jowar, millet and wheat are the main source of energy. These give energy to the body for a long time.
Pulses and Protein:- Peas, beans, lentils, gram, kidney beans and other pulses are rich in protein. These strengthen the muscles and help in repairing the body.
Fruits and Vegetables:- Seasonal fruits and green vegetables provide vitamins, minerals and fiber, which play an important role in increasing immunity.
Other important things:- Consuming adequate amount of edible oil-ghee, jaggery, milk and curd is also beneficial. Paneer or soya can be included in the diet.
Eat fresh and homemade food during TB treatment. Be completely careful with excessive fried, junk food and outside food. Eat at least 3 nutritious meals a day and healthy snacks in between. Drink plenty of water and take medicines on time as per doctor’s advice.
