Jaipur, May 13 (IANS). Jaipur’s Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital received a bomb threat on Wednesday, causing panic among patients, staff and visitors. Police teams, bomb disposal squad, sniffer dogs and civil defense personnel immediately reached the spot and conducted a massive search operation in the hospital premises.
Officials said panic spread in the hospital after receiving an SMS message threatening to blow up the hospital with a bomb, in which Rs 40 crore was demanded.
According to reports, the Abhay Command Center had received a threatening message, warning that the hospital would be blown up if the money was not paid.
As soon as the information was received, police and several investigating agencies started a massive security operation in the hospital premises. Police, fire and search teams reached the spot and intensive search operation is underway in the hospital premises. Security personnel are thoroughly checking all suspicious objects and areas. Authorities have tightened security at the hospital and are investigating the source of the threatening message. After a thorough investigation, officers did not find any suspicious objects.
However, this incident has once again highlighted the growing challenge posed by repeated fake threats across the state. Dr. Mrinal Joshi, Superintendent of SMS Hospital, Jaipur, said, “A bomb threat was received in the police control room to blow up the hospital. After this, the police and other teams searched the hospital premises. However, no suspicious object was found. The police is investigating the matter.”
Authorities in Rajasthan are on high alert following a series of bomb threats targeting major public institutions and historical sites in recent months. Earlier, Rajasthan Assembly, Rajasthan High Court, schools, airports and court-collector complexes have also received similar threats.
Although investigations into previous cases have not found any explosive material, authorities are still taking each threat extremely seriously in accordance with standard security protocols. Jaipur has recorded the highest number of bomb threat incidents in the state.
According to official data, more than 20 such cases were recorded in the capital in 2024, while the number will increase to 34 in 2025. The second highest number of cases was reported in Jodhpur, with 10 cases in 2024 and 9 in 2025. Other cities including Kota, Ajmer, Udaipur, Alwar and Sri Ganganagar have also seen a sharp increase in such threats.
According to police sources, about 40 bomb threats have been reported in Rajasthan since January this year. By comparison, the state was projected to record about 40 cases in 2024 and 55 in 2025.
Investigators found that schools, airports and court-museum complexes have emerged as the primary targets of these threats. Officials acknowledged that threats sent through email and social media platforms pose significant technical and cyber investigative challenges for law enforcement agencies.
Despite multiple investigations, authorities have so far failed to identify or arrest those who issued the threats. Most alerts ultimately prove to be false, but agencies are forced to respond to each incident with extensive security measures to ensure public safety.
