New Delhi, May 28 (IANS). The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has expressed the possibility of relief from the ongoing severe and severe heat wave in North-West India. According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature will start falling in most parts of the region from Thursday, while the effect of heat may persist for the next few days in some areas of Rajasthan, Vidarbha and East Madhya Pradesh.
According to the latest bulletin of IMD, the maximum temperature in north-west India is likely to drop by 6 to 8 degrees Celsius between May 28 and 30. After this there may be a slight increase in temperature.
During the last 24 hours, the maximum temperature recorded in Sriganganagar, Rajasthan was 48.2 degrees Celsius. Apart from many areas of Western Rajasthan, heat wave conditions persisted in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi and East Madhya Pradesh.
The Meteorological Department said that there is going to be a big change in the weather due to the influence of western disturbances and active monsoon systems. Between May 28 and 31, moderate to intense thunderstorms and rain are likely over many parts of northwest, central and eastern India.
Strong winds with a speed of 60 to 80 kilometers per hour may occur in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on May 28 and 29. At some places the wind speed is expected to reach 100 kilometers per hour. Along with this, possibility of lightning and hailstorm has also been expressed.
Northeast India, Odisha, Ganga plains West Bengal, Bihar and parts of South India’s Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka may receive heavy rain during the next few days.
According to IMD, the southwest monsoon has advanced to some more parts of the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and Lakshadweep. Conditions remain favorable for its further progress in the next two to three days.
The weather in Delhi-NCR may change completely after it remains partly cloudy till the evening of 28th May. Light rain, thunderstorms and strong winds with speeds up to 70 kilometers per hour are expected.
The Meteorological Department said that the maximum temperature in the capital could be between 35 to 37 degrees Celsius on May 29 and 34 to 36 degrees Celsius on May 30. This will provide relief to people from the scorching heat of 44 to 46 degrees Celsius that has been prevailing for the last several days.
IMD has issued a warning of severe thunderstorm, lightning and strong winds causing damage to trees, power lines and weak structures. People have been advised to stay indoors during inclement weather, not take shelter under trees and keep electrical appliances safe.
Farmers have also been urged to keep standing crops and harvested agricultural products in a safe place. The Meteorological Department says that with the progress of monsoon, there will be a drop in temperature and increase in rainfall activities in large parts of the country, however, there is a need to be alert at the local level in view of the danger of floods, hailstorms and strong winds.
