New Delhi, April 29 (IANS). In the scorching heat, when the body becomes exhausted due to fatigue and thirst, the need for traditional and nutritious drinks is felt the most. In such a situation, Sattu sherbet not only quenches thirst but also provides coolness and freshness to the body from inside.
Both Ayurveda and modern health experts consider Sattu to be extremely beneficial for summers. Sattu is an ancient Indian food, made primarily by roasting and grinding gram, wheat or barley. In the summer season, it proves to be a natural drink that cools the body. Sattu sherbet is not only delicious, but it is also full of nutrition.
According to Ayurveda, Sattu provides coolness to the body from within and keeps away fatigue, irritability and weakness caused by heat. Its regular consumption in summer strengthens the digestive system, controls blood sugar and also helps in weight management. Sattu, being rich in fiber, keeps the intestines healthy and provides relief from problems like acidity.
The method of making Sattu sherbet is very easy. It can be prepared as per taste by adding salt, lemon, roasted cumin powder or jaggery to it. In summer, this cold sherbet can be drunk in the morning for breakfast or in the afternoon. Apart from this, laddu, paratha and batter can also be made from Sattu. Daily consumption of Sattu is very popular in many parts of the country like states like Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab. Experts advise that drinking homemade Sattu sherbet instead of synthetic drinks during the summer season is more beneficial for health.
According to the report of the National Library of Medicine, Sattu has high fiber content and low glycemic index. This improves digestion, eliminates constipation and also controls cholesterol. Sattu is rich in protein, calcium, iron, magnesium and other essential minerals, which helps in maintaining energy throughout the day. Due to excessive sweating in summer, there is deficiency of water and electrolytes in the body. Sattu sherbet not only quenches thirst but also provides necessary energy to the body.
