Jamnagar, December 11 (IANS). The second World Health Organization (WHO) Global Conference on Traditional Medicine is being organized in collaboration with the Ministry of AYUSH. This program will be held from 17 to 19 December at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

After the first conference successfully organized in Gujarat in the year 2023, India will now host the second global conference on traditional medicine. This conference is being considered as another important step in the global efforts to mainstream traditional medicine for human health, happiness and well-being. This is also in line with India’s message of ‘Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, Sarve Santu Niramayah’.

ITRA Director Professor Tanuja Nesri said that the theme of this year’s conference has been ‘Restoring Balance: The Science and Practice of Health and Medicine’. Ministers, policy makers, health experts, researchers, industry representatives and experts from various fields of traditional medicine from more than 100 countries will participate in this program.

During this time, Ministry of AYUSH will also organize a special session on Ashwagandha, which is a very famous and scientifically studied medicinal plant of India. In this session its importance in traditional medicine and modern treatment method will be discussed.

Giving information about the global conference, it has been said that India’s global leading role in traditional medicine Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa and Homeopathy has been serving humanity for centuries. Today it is becoming more popular as a reliable means of overall health. The WHO Global Center for Traditional Medicine, established in collaboration with India in Jamnagar, Gujarat, is a testimony to this belief.

The efforts of the Ministry of AYUSH and the World Health Organization in organizing the upcoming conference are being appreciated. The Prime Minister of India is also likely to attend the closing ceremony of the conference. Experts believe that the discussions and collaboration at the conference will move the world towards a more balanced, inclusive and sustainable health model.

In view of the increasing dependence on traditional medicine across the world, the need to strengthen research, innovation and scientific evidence has also been emphasized.

The Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA), Jamnagar, India’s largest teaching and research institute in the field of Ayurveda, is playing an important role as the national academic, scientific and technical partner in this conference. Currently, the interim office of WHO GTMC is also functioning in the ITRA premises, until its new office is ready.

The conference will also present a special cultural program prepared by ITRA, in which Padmashree and three-time Grammy Award winner Vicky Cage will perform. In this presentation, an attractive depiction of traditional medical systems from around the world will be given. This is being considered a proud occasion for Jamnagar.
