New Delhi, April 1 (IANS). Nowadays people are giving preference to foreign and expensive fruits in the desire of better health, but in this competition they are ignoring the qualities of traditional fruits available around them. ‘Fig’ is one such fruit, which has been considered healthy for centuries. Modern science also confirms that figs contain abundant amounts of nutrients which not only enhance immunity but also strengthen the digestive system.
According to Ayurveda, fig is considered a fruit with ‘sweet’ and ‘cool’ properties. Its regular consumption helps in maintaining balance in the body. It is especially beneficial for the digestive system.
According to science, both soluble and insoluble fibers are found in figs. This fiber helps in keeping the intestines clean and removes problems like constipation. When digestion remains correct, absorption of nutrients in the body also improves, which improves health.
Figs are also beneficial for bones. Elements like calcium, magnesium and phosphorus are found in it, which make bones strong. Consumption of figs can prove beneficial for people who have bone density problems.
Figs are also a good option for energy. Natural sugar and iron are found in it, which helps in giving instant energy to the body. Iron improves the level of hemoglobin in the body, which reduces fatigue and makes the person feel active throughout the day. This is why people who suffer from weakness or anemia are advised to take figs in limited quantities.
Figs are also considered beneficial for heart health. It contains good amount of potassium and antioxidants, which help in keeping blood pressure balanced. Potassium reduces the effect of sodium in the body, thereby reducing the risk of high blood pressure. At the same time, antioxidants reduce free radicals in the body, which reduces the risk of heart-related diseases. Consuming figs in regular and balanced quantities can also help in controlling cholesterol levels.
