Coimbatore, May 25 (IANS). Tamil Nadu Revenue Minister K. A. Sengottaiyan on Monday clarified his decision to get himself treated at a private hospital. Speaking to reporters at the Coimbatore airport on Monday morning, Sengottaiyan said he had not been able to get his regular medical check-up done for the last eight months due to a very busy schedule. His visit to the private hospital was part of a routine health checkup and not due to any serious medical problem.
In fact, the ruling TVK government had said that the ministers would get treatment only in government hospitals. Many questions started being raised when the Revenue Minister went to a private hospital.
When journalists asked whether K. A. As to why Sengottaiyan chose a private medical facility instead of a government hospital, he said he usually gets a physical checkup done twice a year as part of a standard health routine. Since he missed this schedule due to government work, he decided to complete all the pending tests in the hospital.
The Revenue Minister of Tamil Nadu said that due to work pressure he had not been able to get himself tested in the last eight months. I stayed in the hospital and got all the necessary tests done. Doctors completed all the tests during his stay and later informed him that the results were satisfactory.
After the completion of the medical examination, he is going to Chennai to continue his government responsibilities.
Responding directly to the criticism over his choosing a private hospital instead of a government facility, Sengottaiyan said that the institution where he got treated was owned by his relatives and he had a long association with it.
He said that this is a hospital which is run by my relatives and I have always got treatment there. Since I get free treatment and facilities there, I did not feel the need to go anywhere else. This has been my usual habit for years.
The minister also answered questions related to the recent murder of a girl in Coimbatore and welfare schemes. He said the legal proceedings were progressing and decisions on future plans would be taken by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay depending on the financial position of the government.
