Hyderabad, March 4 (IANS). Preparations are on to prepare health profiles of 46 lakh women in Telangana, as the government has decided to start this program by covering members of women self-help groups across the state.

Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha on Wednesday directed officials to launch the program on March 8, International Women’s Day.

He reviewed the preparations for various activities being undertaken by the Health Department under the 99-day public outreach program ‘Praja Palna-Pragati System’ (People’s Governance-Progress Plan) to be held from March 6 to June 12.

According to an official release, the minister gave instructions to senior officials of the health department about the activities to be carried out during the 99-day programme.

The minister approved the plan prepared by the officials with some changes. It was decided to carry out the program in four phases.

In the first phase, the focus will be on maternal and child care, health services for teenage girls and the elderly for 26 days from March 6 to 31.

Apart from improving administrative aspects like cleanliness management in hospitals, resolving pending files and verifying assets, health screening of children will be done in schools and Anganwadis at field level to prevent anemia.

Self-Help Group Women’s Health Profile Preparation Program will be launched on March 8. A total of 30 types of tests will be conducted on every woman with the help of Telangana Diagnostics.

Around 46 lakh women will be tested in three phases from March 8. In the first phase, this program will be launched in 5 mandals of every district.

In the second phase, 10 more mandals will be covered, while in the last phase, screening will be done in all the remaining mandals. The minister suggested that the entire screening should be completed in 6 months.

The second phase of ‘People’s Governance’ will run from 1 to 15 April. In these 15 days, large screening camps will be organized at sub-centres to detect non-communicable diseases like hypertension, diabetes and cancer.

The minister ordered that chemotherapy services at district day care cancer centers should be mapped and viral infection tests should be made mandatory for dialysis patients.

In the third phase, from April 16 to May 15, the department will focus on infection control and public health preparedness. Apart from identifying TB cases to achieve TB-free India, the Minister ordered that in view of the increasing heat, awareness should be spread among the people about seasonal diseases like sunstroke, dengue and malaria and emergency medicines should be made available.

In the fourth phase, from May 16 to June 12, health services will be expanded in urban areas. The Minister suggested that 145 urban PHCS in GHMC, Cyberabad and Medchal be upgraded to polyclinics and provide specialized medical services.

To provide medical treatment to the poor, medical camps will be set up in slums through mobile vehicles. The Minister suggested that food safety fairs be organized to increase awareness among people about adulterated food.
